Jubal's eating baby food!

At our last checkup/shots appointment, Jubal's pediatrician told us that Jubal is ready for baby food now.  So, over the weekend, we began him on rice cereal & sweet peas.  He gets to have his rice for lunch and his peas for dinner.  We are actually going to give him some squash tonight since he has had peas the past three nights & we know he has no allergies to them.  I was afraid he would have tummy troubles, but his tummy hasn't given him any problem.
His daddy doesn't think he'll like the squash, but I think that's because his daddy picked the peas & I picked the squash.  I'm excited about being able to incorporate the fruits soon.  I know he's going to love fruit.
I took a few pictures of his first time eating his rice & his first time in his highchair.

This is so bittersweet! My newborn baby boy is now an infant and will soon be a toddler.  My goodness, how time really does fly when you're having a ball!!!

Getting ready for his first bite.

He doesn't look real sure about it.

I know, I know!  I could've given him a BLUE bowl!

Roly-Poly

Jubal has been rolling over for about two weeks now, but he couldn't figure out what to do with the arm under him.  Well, he has finally figured it out! We laid him on his blanket in the floor over the weekend for "practice".  It took him a few tries, but he got it!  I'm so proud of my big boy.  I'm so proud of each accomplishment, but I know that I'm going to miss him being a little baby so much.  It brings tears to my eyes as I sit here & write this simply because I know time is not going to slow down for any of us.  I just want to remember & cherish ALL of his learning experiences along his journey of life.

This is just a pic I got of him lying in the floor.

One for the money...

Two for the show...

Three to roll over...

Now go, Jubal, go!!!

My handsome lil boy

I'm going to miss him being small like this, I know.

Jubal's First Thanksgiving~11/25/10

We celebrated Thanksgiving by going to Larson's mom's (Jubal's Granny) house first.  Jubal's Aunt Felicia and Aunt Heather were there, too.  After a wonderful meal, we went to Larson's dad's (Jubal's Papa) house.  We enjoyed spending time with Mr. Larry Dean and Maxine (Jubal's Mema).  We ended up only fixing a plate to take with us from there, though.  We then went to my mama's (Jubal's Mammaw) house.  The turkey was already cooked and Aunt Gena had the dressing mixed except for the eggs, so I cut them up & cooked the dressing.  I had already made my first sweet potato souffle the night before & it turned out well.  While I finished cooking the rest of the trimmings, Larson & Alannah (Jubal's cousin) pulled boxes from the storage shed & put up Mammaw's Christmas tree.  Jubal's cousin, Lyndsay came by to see us, too.  After Aunt Gena got off of work, we set the table and sat down to eat.  Jubal enjoyed gnawing on a piece of turkey & eating some sweet potatoes.  It was nice to be with family.  We were missing quite a few loved ones this year, so it was kinda quiet.  We knew Pappaw (my daddy)& Uncle Bobby (my brother) were looking down on us from Heaven, though.  We also missed having Aunt Marianne there. She makes the best twice-baked potatoes!!!  All-in-all, it was a pretty good Thanksgiving because we all have so much to be thankful for.  I am so thankful for my family, especially Jubal.  He is the most precious blessing the Lord has given to me.
Here are a couple of pics of him having his dinner & a one of him and Alannah in front of the Christmas tree after they got it put up.  He loved all of the lights! I can't wait to put our tree up at home.

He loved the turkey!

First Smile

I was looking through my pics & really wanted to post this one.  It is Jubal's first real smile.  His daddy was taking pictures of us and was making funny sounds to try and get Jubal's attention when we got this picture.  I love it!

We finally got the sweetest smile!

This is the only expression we could get at first.

Still wondering what was going on.

Getting me some good sugar!

Jubal is 4 months old already!

I took Jubal for his 4 month shots Monday, November 15th.  I think I have the most awesome little boy!! He rarely cries, but I just knew he would have a hard time with these shots since he's a little older this time & has a whole lotta personality.  My baby just smiled right through his shots!

Jubal now weighs 15.4 lbs. and is 24 3/4 inches long!  His pediatrician said we can start cereal & baby food (veggies) on November 27th.  We get to incorporate fruits the second week of December.  Up until now he has just been on his formula, taking 6 ozs. at a time.  He takes 5-5 1/2 bottles each day.  Alot of my other mommy friends say they have already started their baby on cereal, but we tried once & Jubal's tummy didn't seem ready so I chose to wait & I'm glad I did because he has put on weight fine & is progressing well.  He is in 50% percentile in weight & height so I'm very happy!!!

Where did that name come from?

Every time someone asks me my son's name and I tell them "Jubal", they immediately have a very confused look on their face.  Everyone always wonders where the name came from.  Well, it is an evidently little known Biblical name.
Jubal is first mentioned in the book of Genesis, chapter 4 verse 21.

Jubal was a descendant of Cain.  I would prefer him to have been a descendant of Abel, but...

The family of Cain
16 Then Cain went out from the presence of the LORD and dwelt in the land of Nod on the east of Eden. 17 And Cain knew his wife, and she conceived and bore Enoch. And he built a city, and called the name of the city after the name of his son—Enoch. 18 To Enoch was born Irad; and Irad begot Mehujael, and Mehujael begot Methushael, and Methushael begot Lamech.
19 Then Lamech took for himself two wives: the name of one was Adah, and the name of the second was Zillah. 20 And Adah bore Jabal. He was the father of those who dwell in tents and have livestock. 21 His brother’s name was Jubal. He was the father of all those who play the harp and flute. 22 And as for Zillah, she also bore Tubal-Cain, an instructor of every craftsman in bronze and iron. And the sister of Tubal-Cain was Naamah.

**Most commentators see here a reference to Jubal as being the first musician but the text does not specifically say so. It records for us only that 'he was the father...', a phrase which could mean that the anointing that was upon Jubal is the same that rests upon all those who followed after him and who took up a like profession/hobby. In this case, he wouldn't so much be the inventor of music but the one who brought something to bear either positively or negatively upon the way music was developing that so changed its course in some unique way that he can be considered as the father of all that has developed down through history.
However, it seems quite right to accept Jubal as the pioneer who succeeded in defining 'music' by reference to musical instruments (for it seems hardly appropriate to state that not so much as one person hummed before Jubal came onto the scene! Neither is it reasonable to suppose that not one bird sang nor dog howled - the Creation today contains musical sound however 'primitive' and unrefined we might consider it) and who was also a musician - the first musician of all.**

Jubal may not have been the FIRST musician, but he was a musician.
Larson & I both LOVE music.
Whether or not our Jubal becomes a musician, I always hope that he is creative & imaginative.

So that, my friends, is where Jubal's name came from.  I love it because it is different.  I want Jubal to grow up to be a leader, not a follower, and I think with a good, strong name, he will stand out & be able to be a good leader.  I pray for this anyway...

~My Daddy~

I'm so happy Jubal came before my daddy passed away.  My daddy, Gene, had been sick for many years, but his health had really began to fail him in the past three, I would say.  Since my brother, Bobby, passed away it was just Daddy and a whole bunch of girls, with the exception of Larson, of course! There's my mama, Becky; my sister, Gena & her daughter, Alannah; my brother's daughter, Lyndsay & her mom, Marianne; and last, but not least, ME!  So, needless to say, when I found out on November 15, 2009 that I was pregnant, everyone ~especially my daddy~ was hoping it would be a boy.

We found out on February 16, 2010 that we WERE having a boy!!!  We were all very excited.  Poor Daddy, though...he just never felt really well.  He would say on occasion that he just wanted to make it to see his first & probably only grandson born.  I would try to brush the comments off just as talk, but I knew he was tired.

My daddy did get to see his grandson!  This is a picture of him holding Jubal for the first time, and my nieces, Lyndsay & Alannah.  I'm so proud of this picture!

My daddy got to spend almost 8 weeks with my baby boy before he did pass away.  I always want Jubal to know how special he is & how much he was wanted so badly by so many people, especially his Pappaw.

Here are a few more pictures of Jubal with his Pappaw.

I sure do miss my daddy, but I'm sure he is happy with Jesus.  He doesn't feel any pain anymore and he can be as young or old as he wants to be in Heaven.  God knew he wanted to meet Jubal before He took him home and God allowed that to happen.  Thank You, God!

Jubal's Birth Day

There is nothing I love more than talking about Jubal! So, what I'm going to do since I just began this blog is go all the way back to when he was born and start posting about everything up til now.  I love being able to brag about my heart & soul!!!

So...here is where it all began.

July 12, 2010~The day my life REALLY began!

Our 8 lb. 19.5 in. boy, born at 11:47am

The happy, new family!

I never knew I could love someone so much!

This was a very exciting day! I woke up around 4:30a.m. to get my shower & get dressed.  We left for the hospital at 6:45a.m.   I wasn't nervous or scared, but I was anxious to meet this little person that had been causing all the commotion in my belly for the past 9 1/2 months.
Let me just tell you what a busy-body this little guy was!  I would tell Larson, and Mama & Daddy that he would move so much and so hard sometimes that he would literally take my breath away.  I don't think they really comprehended what I was saying, though.
The ultrasound tech would have to be very patient with us because Jubal would constantly be moving while she was trying to get measurements.  In my 24th week, I had to start going to the doctor twice a week for biophysicals because of diabetes.  Jubal would move so much that the nurse would have to come in and put the monitors back on my tummy because he kicked them off.  All the nurses in the doctor's office started calling him "a mover & a shaker" because he was NEVER still.

Well now, this would be the day I got to see the boy that took my breath away before he was ever born!  He came into this world on a sunny Monday morning at 11:47.  He weighed 8lb. and was 19.5 inches long.  He had a head full of dark blond hair, beautiful skin, and all of his fingers & toes.  We were truly blessed with a healthy baby boy.  God has been so good to us!  As for all the moving he did in my tummy...he hasn't slowed down since birth, either!  Jubal's eyes are always wide open & he is constantly in motion.  His hands & feet are never still except when he sleeps, and he is very curious & observant.  I could go on & on about him and how alert he is all the time, but let me get back to my story...

When I finally got to my room & got to really hold that precious boy in my arms...well, he took the breath right out of my chest again!!!  What an amazing day!!! I waited a long time for that moment.  Of course we spent the whole day showing him off, but that evening when we had him all to ourselves was the best.  It had been just Larson & I for so long and now we had this blessing of a union right here in the palm of our hands!  I still can't believe God blessed me with this perfect, healthy baby boy.  I can't thank Him enough for trusting me with one of His children.
