Back To School

The new school year began on August 3 this year.
Somehow, I managed to get the boys a little excited about going back.
When we went to meet the teachers, and found out their classmate's names,
Jubal was even more excited when he found out the little girl he's had
a crush on since last year would be in his class this year.

Gentry was pleased with his teacher, Mrs. Nails.
He had her in an earlier grade, so he already loves her.
However, he has none of his best buds in his class this year.
I'm hoping that turns out to be a good thing.

Maybe he will excel in his studies instead of socializing so much.
My fingers are crossed, because I chose this class for him
which means I inevitably separated him from them.
My heart hurt so bad on his first day, but he came home telling
me all about his new friends he made that day so I felt some better.

This year Jubal is in 3rd grade, and Gentry is in 1st grade.
My boys are growing right on up.
Jubal only has two more grade levels to complete before
leaving Gentry behind at the elementary school.
He'll be moving on up to middle school, then high school.
They'll both graduate before I can blink good.

Right now, though, they seem to be enjoying the new school year.
I know it won't last, and before long they'll complain every morning about
having to get up and go, but I also remind them how important their education is.

Jubal has science for the first time for the first nine weeks.
I SUCK at science!
Like, really.
Lord, I hope he passes.
He'll switch out each nine weeks between science & social studies.
I'm pretty decent in SS,
and for the first time since going to school he will have a male teacher.
I think that will be a great thing for him.

I'm sure I'll have many more posts about school throughout their year.
I'm praying for them & for their teachers.
May my boys not get discouraged, and may their teachers have plenty of patience.

Amen!

Rounding Out Summer Vacation

My last post was about some of our fun summer adventures,
so I'm going to finish up with a few more just for memory's sake.

Fun times riding the golf cart with Laney.
She took all these sweet pictures for me. :)
No shoes, no shirt, no problem.

Took the boys to their annual checkup.
Jubal is finally growing!
He's up to 56 lbs. & almost 4 feet tall (3 ft. 10 1/2 inches).
His pediatrician was happy he was finally gaining some weight.
Jubal is just happy that he's starting to be taller than his little brother. :)
Gentry weighed in at 49.2 lbs, and he was 3 ft. 9 inches tall.
Now you can understand why Jubal was excited to be the big brother...finally.

I took them to have ice cream & donuts after the appointments.
It's great to get some mama/son time with them.
Gentry had cotton candy, and Jubal had vanilla & cherry jubilee.

Their daddy has taken them fishing quite a bit this summer.
They love catching fish.
I hope fishing is something they always enjoy.
We're not a hunting family, but all the men in Larson's family are.
I'm happier with a fishing rod over a gun any day.

Last, but not least, I took the boys for their "back to school" hair cuts.
Gentry wanted his short so I allowed him to have it his way.
Guess I can't keep him a baby forever. :/

School has already started now.
I will probably have another post soon about their first
day back as a 3rd grader & a 1st grader.

Until then...
